FAQs

  • We can use the Motocrane almost anywhere. From race tracks to snow, our team are supported by specialist automotive safety advisors who guide us on what needs to happen to use our tracking and chase vehicles in any conditions.

  • Setting up the Ultra Arm from the hard-cases to the top of the car takes around 25 minutes. Another 15 minutes for configuring the camera setup is needed. Once the vehicle is ready, our team will do a safety check and then a dry run of the location to scout for obstacles and hazards.

  • 10m length, 10m wide, 3.5m height is the space needed for building the Motocrane.

  • There is usually a team of four people: vehicle driver, crane operator, gimbal operator and focus puller. As well as the in-car crew, we normally work with a Stunt Coordinator, 2nd Unit Director or 1st Assistant Director who manages the communication and planning of all vehicles involved in filming. Our in-house 1st Assistant Director can make sure you’re getting the most out of the day in the safest way possible. We always bring a support van with us with a driver / technician to help with the build and adjustment.

  • The daily rate for the Motocrane with the Porsche Cayenne is around £5,000 with the crew included. Our team will quote each project separately as they advise you on what system is best suited to your need. This means we cannot have fixed prices, as you may require a different gimbal head or a specialist type of vehicle to use the Motocrane with. Our team of in-house producers can advise on everything from permits to safety.

The Blackarm requires a smaller crew but specialist rigging. The average cost per day is £3,800 with the vehicle, equipment and crew.

  • The Motocrane Ultra can be mounted to endless types of vehicles, from buggies to offroad 4x4’s. Different projects require different setups. For example, you are shooting a scene in a desert, you won’t be able to go through the sand or off-road on a Porsche Cayenne and that’s where off-road trucks like the Ford Raptor come into play. On the other hand, if you are filming a chase scene in the city, commercial on the speedway, or any other project that requires speed and dynamics, you are better off going with Porsche Cayenne.

  • The Porsche Cayenne GTS comes equipped with 3 monitors, a built-in playback setup and intercom all integrated within the car interior. Our package includes a DJI Ronin2 head and all cabling for connecting the camera to the monitors and playback.

  • On closed circuits we can drive at speeds of 130 km/h whilst using the Motocrane. When using the Blackarm, we can reach speeds of 160 km/h on a closed racetrack.

  • The camera feed is recorded/played back using the built-in Blackmagic Video Assist, which records a wide range of optional video formats. The video input on the Video Assist has extensive compatibility with a wide range of cameras, accepting 12-bit 12G SDI. All monitors inside of the Porsche are connected to the playback system allowing the crew inside of the vehicle to review shots on the go. When connected to an optional wireless video system, your director and producers can watch the playback remotely as well.
